methanol extract which ma y be responsible for the
antimicrobial activity
[25 ]
. T he previous reports sho wed that
1,2 - Benzenedicarboxylic acid, butyl 2 - co mpounds obtained
fro m plant extract sho wed various biological activities like
antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anticancer
[19]
and also
reported metha nolic extract of P. amarus was screened for the
presence of se veral bioactive c ompo unds
[26]
.

4. Conclusions
In the present stud y, phyto che mical co mpone nts suc h as
steroids/sterols, cardiac glycosides, saponins, alkaloids,
tannins, phe nols, flavonoids and terpenoids were present in
the metha nolic leaf e xtract of Phyllanthus debilis . FTIR
spectrum a nalysis of a me tha nolic leaf e xtract of Phyllanthus
debilis indicated the presenc e of different phytofunc tional
groups suc h as a lka nes, ethe rs, a mines, alde hydes, a lipha tic
bromo and alipha tic chlor o compounds and aro matic
compounds. GC - M S chro matogra m analysis of the
me thanolic lea f extract of Phyllanthus debilis revealed the 9
major bioactive co mpounds, which ha ve a ntio xidant,
antimicrobial and antifunga l activity. Usually medicinal
plants contain numerous sec ondary metabolites, which are
plays a pivotal role to control the gro wth of the
microorganisms. T herefore, based on the results it ca n be
concluded that the metha nolic extract of Phyllanthus debilis
ma y hold enor mo us resourc e of phar mace utical properties
which might be used for natur al therap y.
